7 Things I Love About Blogging

I’ve been a blogger since 2020. While there may be cons like backaches, burnout, and loneliness at times, there are definitely more reasons why I love blogging and why I’m not stopping anytime soon.

I had many reasons to stop blogging. But I didn’t.

I’ll give you some background.

I was an ordinary but spontaneous woman who just bought my domain name and registered with a hosting on a whim.

“If not now, when?” I told myself.

It has always been my dream to be a writer. However, along the path, I had lots of blogging mistakes as a beginner that I learned the hard and long way.

At first, people dive into blogging because they see it as an easy way out. However, it isn’t always the case. Starting from the consistency blogging requires, it’s really a long fight upon entering the blogging field.

For example, when you’re used to following orders and directions on your job, it may be difficult to instill discipline in yourself when you’re left alone to build your own.

And yes, we start literally from zero.

Despite the issues, I can say that my first year of blogging went great — receiving about 25,000 pageviews in my first year.

“Not bad, huh? This will grow exponentially!” I thought.

However, it wasn’t as pleasing when I got hit by a Google algorithm update in May 2022, taking away 30% of my total traffic overnight.

And that’s not the worst. My traffic stagnated for the following year, despite posting lots and lots of blog posts. Thankfully now, the blog’s recovering.

Despite the rollercoaster ride of managing a profitable blog, I can say that I still love blogging. I chose to be a full-time blogger now and here’s why.

1.   The opportunities never cease to surprise me.

Blogging never cease to excite me.

As a blogger, we have the freedom to explore different topics, engage with diverse audiences, and collaborate with like-minded individuals. Whether you want to talk about card decks, drawers, or life — do it!

But since I have no mentor when I started blogging, I admit everything was like opening both a treasure chest and Pandora’s box.

On day 1, I learned how to customize my website.
Day 5, I messed up the settings and for dear life, I thought I lost the site.
Day 10, I published content.
On day 60, I got accepted as an Amazon affiliate.
On day 132, I got monetized by Google AdSense.

It seems like an RPG game that never runs out of goals to achieve.

Up until now, I got plans up on my sleeve, and if only I can multiply myself so all these things get done!

New algorithms spring up. New case studies, too. Not to mention, technologies here and there!

If you’re someone who loves to learn new things every day, connect with like-minded people, experiment, and get delayed but ahh-mazing gratifications, you will LOVE blogging as much as I do.

The possibilities are truly endless, and it’s always thrilling to see what new opportunities arise through blogging.

2.   Our writings reach the right people.

I remember writing blog posts and sending them to a few friends to get their feedback.

Well, it wasn’t a fascinating experience especially when your friends aren’t readers who enjoy skimming on text.

That’s where I learned the importance of reaching the right audience.

Unlike social media that will try to judge you personally, writing your own experiences in a blog makes a difference not only to you as a blogger, but to other people who share the same passion and interests.

In social media, you find people to read your articles. In blogging, people search for queries and intentionally land on your writings for answers.

Your real experiences can be valuable knowledge for people who share the same queries. It’s a platform where you can be real, and vulnerable, and connect with others who resonate with your story.

If you’re someone who has great knowledge or experience for a topic – say fishing, traveling, or cooking… I know you’ll find fun in sharing them in your blog.

3. It fulfills my passion for writing.

Writing is a creative outlet for many, and it is mine, too. Blogging helped me organize my thoughts better so that people can comprehend and dive deep into my thoughts.

As an introspective person, ideas keep rewinding in my head. Writing them down helped me widen, and deepen these thoughts. I harbor more knowledge as I write. Slowly, I become an authority in my own niche.

If you’re someone who wants to improve your writing skills, you can start a blog.

It works as a:

  • Creative outlet
  • Honing my skills
  • Improving my expertise
  • Taught me consistency in publishing
  • And kept records of all my musings

4. It’s passive, but can also be an active income stream.

I love blogging because I love to have flexible work hours.

Blogging gave me a chance to generate an income passively and redirect my energy into something else like creating other income streams and traveling. All of these, I can’t do with a full-time job.

Admittedly, the early months of blogging were quite demanding, as it took consistent effort to fill my blog with valuable posts and explore different monetization strategies.

Remember, I was a newbie, too.

There was a time I literally don’t know what I was doing, and even a time when I almost lost my website due to a single setting mistake.

However, with time and persistence, it has become much easier, providing me with a stream of passive income that covers my bills and necessities, and most especially, it bought me time to enjoy life.

And while it’s passive, many bloggers also make it an avenue for active income where they can offer consultations, coaching services, and webinars.

5. It’s a highly scalable business.

As our blog grows and attracts more readers, our reach expands and the blog becomes more and more invaluable, not only to you but to sponsors and partnerships, too.

A blog with 5,000 views per month can get approved in Google AdSense. But when you grow your blog and reach 50,000 sessions, you can quadruple your earnings through more prominent ad networks like Mediavine and AdThrive which can give $10-$25 per thousand pageview depending on the niche.

And when you don’t want to depend on ads? There are numerous affiliate products you can advertise.

If you don’t want to promote others’ products? Then create YOUR OWN product.

With the right strategies in place, your blog can become a scalable business that generates substantial income and opens doors to exciting opportunities such as book deals, speaking engagements, or brand collaborations.

6. Flexibility and freedom to pursue other passions.

Blogging was a game-changer. Diving in it was a whole mindset shift.

From an employee who gets by with 9-5, to someone who can earn the same but with no strict schedule, it opened me to a whole new perspective that, “Hey, it’s okay to get out of the norm.”

Being in a strict Asian household, you bet my mom raised her eyebrows and looked down on what I do.

My father, although trying to understand my choices, still thinks that my college degrees and the time I spent were all a waste.

However, it only takes time to make them realize that blogging offered me not only income but the time to actually be happy, and experience more travel, free from nagging bosses.

And let me tell you, the opportunity to build my own is the real freedom I experienced.

Now, I can pursue other passions, spend quality time with my loved ones, or even travel to my heart’s content, all while keeping my blog up and running.

It’s like having the best of both worlds – the thrill of exploring new places and experiences, while still maintaining your online presence and growing your blog.

These reasons alone are enough to get me motivated as a blogger.

7. Helping people is the main goal.

Before, I wanted to blog because I want to earn passively. But in the long run, it isn’t the case anymore.

I didn’t quit because my words actually helped people through their personal troubles.

I have a lifestyle blog. When your blog impacts people, those people you’ve helped send you their thanks and support you in your endeavors.

Because my first blog was very personal and close to my heart, I have countless back-and-forth and heartfelt conversations with my readers.

I didn’t earn a single penny from those conversations, but at least I helped and in the end, my heart was happy. We both win.

It’s an incredible power to make a difference in someone’s life.

It’s a privilege – and a really satisfying one.

BLOGGING TOOLS I RECOMMEND:

Grammarly – Detects misspelled words and grammatical errors. It gives your piece an overall performance score based on correctness, clarity, engagement, and the delivery of your blog. All free!

Ezoic – Aside from ad monetization, Ezoic also offers SEO, Analytics, and Site Speed tools. With Ezoic, my ad revenue increased 23x more than Google Adsense. They now provide an Access Now Program that accepts new blog websites with a minimum of zero – again – zero traffic.

Canva Pro – Canva’s free services are great, but Canva Pro is limitless, no doubt! I mostly use it for Pinterest pins and creating animations for my Youtube Channel.
